How to Cook Red Rice in Pressure Cooker | Red Rice Recipe

Eating red rice or brown rice is healthier than taking polished white rice. In this post, we are going to see how to cook Red Rice / Kerala Matta Rice in a pressure cooker. Matta rice/Red Rice contains fiber and minerals like magnesium, iron, calcium and it is very nutritious than white rice.

Red rice is rich in fiber, minerals vitamins and helps in weight loss & managing diabetes.

Cooking this rice is a little time-consuming but the health benefits are great. For cooking this Red rice, we have to soak it beforehand. I have soaked this rice one hour prior to cooking. Now, let's see how to cook.

Kerala matta rice cooked in pressure cooker

Ingredients

Red Rice/ Matta rice - 1 cup

Water - 3 Cups

Salt - 1/2 tsp

Sesame Oil - 1/2 tsp

Method

Wash the rice twice and add it to the pressure cooker.

Pour 3 cups of water.

Let it soak for 30 to 45 minutes in the pressure cooker.

After soaking, add salt and sesame oil.

Turn on the flame. Cover and keep the whistle on.

Keep the flame on high and cook for 5 minutes.

After 5 minutes, reduce the flame to medium and cook for 3 whistles.

After 3 whistles, reduce the flame to low and cook for 3 minutes.

Turn off the flame and let it cools down for 10 to 15 minutes and open the cooker. Transfer the rice immediately to a wide pan.

Cooking time and water quantity will be vary depending on the rice quality. If the rice is undercooked, cover and cook for 1 more whistle.
